Chennai-based indie band The F16s on their latest EP, Is It Time to Eat the Rich Yet?

The F16

WITH HIS ROCK ‘n’ roll attitude and ten year career, independent actor The F16s has amassed a loyal fan base. During the pandemic and lockdown, the Chennai-based outfit had plenty of time to introspect. And the concept of wealth disparity really touched the band members. The quartet based the title of their new project on this disparity – Is there still time to eat the rich? – a five-track EP exploring the many moods inspired by lockdown.

The group is made up of Abhinav Krishnaswamy, Sashank Manohar, Joshua Fer nandez and Harshan Radhakrishnan. “While this EP was built at the height of the pandemic, we were strongly sensitized to structural inequalities. The rich got richer, the poor got poorer, ”Abhinav tells us.

Although the name of the album suggests that it is political, the songs have a lighter vibe. The album is described as a joyous celebration of the human condition under duress. With songs I am on holiday, Easy Bake Easy Wake and Trouble in paradise, the group takes a casual approach to society, but with a satirical twist. The songs feature the band’s signature post-punk and synth style. ““The song It sucks to be human is the sound of getting fed up with what this place has to offer, and looking out into outer space, and looking out into outer space, ”he shares, adding,“ people seem to have embraced it, to the point where our fan base in Japan has seen a slight but significant increase. “

The group released some funny video clips for the songs of Is there still time to eat the rich?, and fans expect live concerts. “We cautiously hope that the sites will open and remain open,” concludes Abhinav.
