Drake steps down from Grammy nominations

Multi-Grammy Award Artist Drake Withdrawn 2022 Grammy Nominations For Album Boy in love certified, who was in the running for best rap album, and his song “Way 2 Sexy”, nominated for best rap performance.

A representative from the Recording Academy confirmed the news with Variety. Each category will now contain only four nominees. Best rap performance will include Baby Keem’s “Family Ties” with Kendrick Lamar, Cardi B’s “Up”, J. Cole’s “MY LIFE” with 21 Savage & Morray and Megan Thee Stallion’s “Thot S ***”.

The best rap album will now be in between, Off-season by J. Cole, King’s disease II by Nas, Call me if you get lost by Tyler, the creator, and Donda by Kanye West.

The decision was made by Drake and his management and the Grammys honored the request, according to Variety. There was no mention, at the time, of why the singer had withdrawn his name.

Drake is named in the lawsuits surrounding the recent Astroworld tragedy, and some believe his removal was the result. Although Drake has yet to explicitly say why or make any social media announcements.

Last year, Drake said the Grammys should be replaced with “something new that we can build over time and pass on to generations to come.” It happened after the awards show failed to recognize Drake’s friend and compatriot The Weeknd.

“I think we should stop letting ourselves be shocked every year by the disconnect between punchy music and these awards and just accept that what was once the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artist that exists. now and those who will come after, ”Drake then posted in an Instagram story. “It’s like a parent you always expect to fix, but they just won’t change their ways. The other day I said @theweeknd was a lockdown for the album or song of the year with countless other reasonable assumptions and it never happens that way. Now is the perfect time for someone to start something new that we can build over time and pass on to future generations.

The Recording Academy has been busy lately. Earlier this month, they withdrew Marilyn Manson’s Best Rap Song nomination for “Jail,” a song he helped co-write on Kanye West’s recent album. Donda. Manson is still in contention for a Grammy for Album of the Year for Donda.

The 64th Annual Grammys Awards, hosted by Trevor Noah, will air live from Los Angeles on Paramount + and CBS on January 31.
