Elton John shares health update after postponing farewell tour

Almost two months after postponing the 2021 tour dates of his farewell tour for hip surgery, Elton John has provided an update on his health.

In a recent interview in the UK, the 74-year-old revealed he has limited mobility and is in constant pain, but is determined to catch up on tours for his fans who have tickets for his shows once he’s healed.

“I wouldn’t be 100 percent fit,” John said. I wouldn’t be 100% confident most of the time, because I can’t move sideways, can’t get in and out of a car, and the decision had to be made because I wouldn’t want to get on stage and give less than 100 percent, and with a year and a half on tour, how long would my hip last? It probably wouldn’t… so better do it now.

John added: “I will unfortunately disappoint everyone this year, but I will make up for it and be in much better shape.”

In September, John first revealed the accident that caused his hip injury. “I fell awkwardly on a hard surface and since then have experienced considerable pain and discomfort in my hip,” John shared in an Instagram post. “Despite intensive physical therapy and specialized treatment, the pain has continued to worsen and causes increasing difficulty in moving.”

The Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour is expected to resume with the North American stage in January 2022 and continue until 2023.

John recently posted Containment sessions, a collection of 16 songs, starring Dua Lipa, Charlie Puth, Brandi Carlile, Lil Nas X, Stevie Wonder and Miley Cyrus and launched the Elton John Eyewear Collection, designed to his own famous specifications, in collaboration with Sam’s Club and Walmart.
