The producers of Saturday Night Live are “scrambling” to replace Ed Sheeran for the broadcast of the show on November 6 after the singer revealed on Sunday that he had tested positive for COVID-19.

An insider said Sixth page that the producers of the basic NBC comedy are looking for “another singer who uses the same demo” to replace Sheeran, 30, on the show, with Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes named as potential replacements.

The source said the show could allow Sheeran to stage a performance from a distance, but generally, “the show likes to have the performer in the studio.”

The source added, “Ed is offering to perform live via video link, but that’s not something SNL does.”

Sheeran took to social media on Sunday to update fans on his health.

‘Hi guys. Quick note to let you know that I unfortunately tested positive for Covid so I am self-isolating now and following government guidelines, ”he said. “I am now unable to continue my commitments in person at the moment, so I will be doing as many of my scheduled interviews / performances as possible from my home.

“I apologize to everyone I have let down. Be careful everyone x. ‘

The English singer-songwriter was to be a musical guest on the show with Estate actor Kieran Culkin as the host.

Sheeran has appeared on Saturday Night Live as a musical guest twice. In 2014, he performed his songs Sing and Don’t on the show. In a 2017 appearance, he sang Shape of You and Castle on the Hill on NBC’s Weekend Basic Show.

Sheeran is also expected to appear on The Voice as a mentor, and TMZ reported that Sheeran filmed her segment before he tested positive.

The musical artist‘s fourth studio album, titled =, is scheduled for release on October 29.
