The first concert of the 2021-2022 season of the Fall River Symphony

FALL RIVER – The first concert of the 2021-2022 season of the Fall River Symphony will take place on Sunday, October 24 at 3 a.m. at the BCC Jackson Arts Center Theater.

It will be a fall concert “Red, White and Blue” featuring works by American composers, in a patriotic spirit. The concert will open with the Aaron Copland Marching Band for the Common Man, and it will also feature other works by Copland, Morton Gould and George Walker. A highlight will be the portrait of Copland Lincoln, narrated by local librarian and storyteller David Mello.

There will also be a performance by the winner of last year's Competition for Young Artists, Christopher Tillen of Weston, who will play the first movement of Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto.

The musical director will be Douglas McRay Daniels, in his seventh season with the symphony. Daniels is also Director of the Bentley University Chamber Orchestra and Assistant Lecturer at Tufts University. He has been a music teacher for the past seven years at Gann Academy and chair of the arts department from 2012 to 2016.

Among his many accomplishments, Daniels is the founder and artistic director of the popular 3rd Sundays @ 3 Chamber Music series. This chamber music television series has spotlighted chamber bands throughout the Greater Boston area and across the country.

A highlight will be the portrait of Copland Lincoln, narrated by local librarian and storyteller David Mello.

This will be the opening concert for the ninety-sixth season of the Fall River Symphony. Other concerts this season will be a Holiday Pops concert on December 19, a winter concert on February 27 with music by Johannes Brahms, Mozart and Augustus Hailstork, and a spring In Memoriam concert with music by Franz Schubert and Ottorino Respighi, date and place to be determined.
