“Wrecking Ball” songwriter Mozella bought a house in Santa Monica – DIRT
Keeping it all in the creative family, multi-stage songwriter and recording artist Mozella Рn̩e Maureen McDonald Рbought a charming little Tudor house in Santa Monica from a Los Angeles public relations guru who specializes in promoting the contemporary art world. Records reveal that Mozella paid Sara Fitzmaurice of Fitz & Co. just over $ 5 million for the property, initially listed for nearly $ 5.2 million. Fitzmaurice reclaimed the spot in 2018 for $ 4.7 million.
An accomplished singer (“Anything is Possible”, “Love is Endless”, “Can’t Get Enough”), Mozella is probably best known for co-writing some of the greatest pop hits of the past decade, including Miley Cyrus’ No 1 smash âWrecking Ballâ, âPerfectâ by One Direction, âOne Call Awayâ by Charlie Puth and âLove So Softâ by Grammy Award nominated Kelly Clarkson. The Detroit native, 40, has also collaborated with the likes of Rihanna, Ellie Goulding, Tinashe, Madonna, Nick Jonas and Pink.
Perched atop a hill in the desirable neighborhood of northern Montana, Mozella’s new residence is largely hidden from the street by a screen of towering cypress trees. A brick walkway with steps begins at the expansive driveway to the side, then leads under a closed trellis and through a grassy fenced lawn before spilling out into the pretty stucco and skylight house. Sitting on a 0.23 acre plot, the 2,808 square foot two-story structure features three bedrooms and three bathrooms, as well as a self-catering guesthouse.
A fairly plain front door opens into a hall which leads to a fireside lounge overlooking lush greenery through split-light windows. From here a formal dining room and breakfast nook both have patio doors that open onto an outdoor dining patio. The breakfast nook adjoins a gourmet kitchen equipped with high-end Thermador, Wolf, Sub-Zero and Miele appliances, as well as a butcher’s island with a prep sink. Elsewhere on the lower level is a bedroom with an adjacent bathroom.
Upstairs, a spacious master suite has a seating area that leads to a balcony with treetop and mountain views. An updated bathroom is fitted with a frameless shower and huge tub, and there is also a large walk-in closet. Two additional bedrooms are on this floor, as well as another bathroom. Outside, the private tree-lined courtyard houses an elevated swimming pool and spa surrounded by a sun terrace, seating area, and outdoor shower. The aforementioned guest house has been recently renovated, with one bedroom, kitchenette and bathroom
Kate Bransfield of Coldwell Banker Realty held the list; the buyer has been replaced by Cynthia Perez-Brown of Sotheby’s International Realty.
